How to Improve Compass Accuracy for Android Devices
An accurate compass reading is essential for the correct orientation of your floor plan. Your smartphone’s built-in compass, also known as a magnetometer, can sometimes be affected by magnetic interference or outdated calibration. By following these steps, you can ensure your compass is providing the most precise reading possible.
The steps for Android devices can vary slightly depending on the manufacturer, but the general principles are the same.
1. Enable Location Services
First, make sure that location services are enabled on your device.
- Go to Settings > Location.
- Ensure that the Location toggle at the top is on.
2. Turn On Google Location Accuracy
This setting allows your phone to use signals from Wi-Fi, mobile networks, and sensors to determine your location more accurately.
- Go to Settings > Location > Location Services.
- Tap on Google Location Accuracy.
- Make sure Improve Location Accuracy is toggled on.
3. Enable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Scanning
Allowing your phone to scan for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth networks can further improve location and compass accuracy, even if you are not connected to them.
- Go to Settings > Location > Location Services.
- Turn on Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.
